• Drew Barrymore's Spielberg education • 02 Nov 2009 • POSTED BY DREW BARRYMORE DAILY
Drew Barrymore learnt everything she knows from Steven Spielberg. The actress was just five years old when she starred in the iconic director's 1982 hit 'E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial', and the pair have been firm friends ever since.
The 34-year-old star said: "I've spent my whole life working with more than 60 directors, so I've picked up all kinds of tips. Steven Spielberg has been a big help. "He gave me great notes. He's a wonderful mentor." Drew's relationship with Steven is so strong, she even pays tribute to him in her latest film 'Whip It', a film about a roller derby which she directed and also stars in. She explained to Empire magazine: "My favourite scene in 'Whip It' is actually the food fight, which is an homage to 'E. T.', when we had that big food fight in the lunch room." But the quirky star didn't enjoy shooting other scenes of the film as much. She recently revealed she was left black and blue when a training session with Detroit Derby Girls star Racer McChasHer went wrong. Drew explained: "We were wrestling and rolling around on the track, one of our skates and both our body weights were on my thigh. I had a bruise that was a foot long and a foot wide. My entire leg was covered." • Drew Barrymore's Whip It injury • 02 Nov 2009 • POSTED BY DREW BARRYMORE DAILY
Drew Barrymore was left in agony on the set of Whip It - after a scene with Juliette Lewis turned nasty.
The actress donned her skates alongside Lewis and Ellen Page for the roller derby film, which also marked her directorial debut. But the 34 year old ended up nursing a painful leg injury when she took a nasty tumble. She tells Empire magazine, "In one scene I wrestle Juliette Lewis. Her skate and both our body weights were on my thigh, so I ended up with a bruise a foot long and a foot wide. There's nothing hotter than a girl fight." • Drew Barrymore now dating Jason Segal? • 15 Dec 2008 • POSTED BY DREW BARRYMORE DAILY

But Barrymore has reportedly moved on with How I Met Your Mother star Segel, after their pair were allegedly spotted getting cozy at Los Angeles' Chateau Marmont on November 28th. A source tells Star magazine, "Drew was all over Jason ... kissing his face. He was on cloud nine." • Drew Barrymore on the cover of POP magazine • 30 Nov 2008 • POSTED BY DREW BARRYMORE DAILY

• Drew Barrymore: How Barack Obama Made Me "Burst Into Tears" • 09 Oct 2008 • POSTED BY DREW BARRYMORE DAILY
Drew Barrymore says Barack Obama made her cry.
"When I heard him speak about a gay person never having to sit outside the hospital room with their loved one sick inside, I burst into tears because so many people I care about are homosexual and it was profound to have someone be sensitive to that," she says in November's Harper's Bazaar. "That's the kind of world I want to live in, where we're not holding our own principles in judgment above someone or against someone." Not only does Barrymore endorse Obama in the issue, she says, "It's the first time I've really admitted I'm a Democrat." Despite her political affiliation, she says Republican candidate John McCain "is a good person, and he does care, but he has voted against things that are shocking as far as people's liberties and economic choices." Barrymore doesn't talk about Gov. Sarah Palin, but says, "I think people realize the intention of the choice." Although she voted for Al Gore last time around, Barrymore admits she didn't really pay attention to the voting process. "I was raised in a family -- well, no family, really, so no one talked to me about politics or why voting is important," she says. "So my way to educate myself was driving around America and filming all sorts of people with different mind-sets. She goes on, "I became an avowed voter and feel it is really important to engage other people in it." Since turning 30, "my priorities have changed so much," says Barrymore, who split from Justin Long earlier this year. "I've been single for months now, and I've turned my attention towards my passions, my friends and the causes I believe in. "I've learned to put myself second. I've had a couple of fun, frolicky relationships, but really, I got out of five-year-relationship and dated a few people here and there," she says. "Mostly it's been about learning who I am, not through a man, but for myself." She goes on, "I've been spending more time with my friends and doing more traveling with the U.N." -- she's been to Kenya twice -- "and challenging myself with work. I'm so happy with where my priorities are right now." • Drew Barrymore enjoys being single • 09 Oct 2008 • POSTED BY DREW BARRYMORE DAILY
